It's been a long time coming, but good thigns come to those who wait. As can be seen from the sceenshots here the purchase and research screens are now in and working, and the vast majority of unit art is also complete. We're getting there!

Interesting, what tank models are used for different levels of tanks for each country? I see russia got the KV 2

Models, other question

Why is the German strategic bomber a bi-plane? shouldn't it be an He-111 most likely?

Other question - have you determined starting forces for neutrals? I have a lot of data on their armed forces and can make estimates but let me ask, for example, how much you gave Poland and Germany as starting forces? Do you have any stats available?

Nazi flag?

No Nazi flag for the Germans? I would prefer one because it is more historically accurate. Can't you just delete that for the Germans?

and...

Not to just give criticisms, but everything else is looking very good!

Purty! :)

I bet the SU-2 is the Soviet Strategic bomber model?? A TB-3 would be better...then the initial tactical bomber could be the SU-2 instead of the Pe-2........;)

Also the German Battleship looks a lot like a cruiser, and are cruiser squadrons not modeled?

Like vypuero said - just some nits to be picked.....

Looking good!

But I am still looking forwrd to seeing the optional more traditional wargaming view of the counters

And the same alternate "counters" would need to appear on al the screens thye currently appear.

Yeah...looking great...

Can't comment on the various tanks, planes etc as i've always been interested in the general strategy of the war...never got into those details.

We were partly limited in which unit models by their availability, so there are probably slightly more appropriate vehcicles or aircraft that could have been used, but we were unable to access. We have spent a lot of time trying to get it right but know it is not perfect. The biplane is a bug - not sure why it's not showing a Heinkel. Currently we have hevier fleets good vs surface vessels and lighter fleets good vs subs. We're undecided about the German flag as we were hoping to have a multi language version for the internet so it could be difficult. We may be able to offer a patch to add it back in, but I need to check the legalities. Alternate counters in a board game style have been made at first pass for the outer zoom, but need a little rework and larger versions for the inner zoom. The outer zoom will always use these counters as it is too small to see the units as icons. When these are ready we'll show you the outer zoom - it looks pretty cool!

A question on the counters for fleets. We've been able to find plenty of material for ground based counters with X for infantry, oval with a slash for armour, artillery a dot etc. We have not been able to find a standard for naval units - does anyone know of one or should we just do what we think works best?

Waiting eagerly for an example of the counters. :D

Regarding the naval units; why not simply write "BB", "DD", "CV" and "Sub" in the units boxes. Most board games went for that solution.

Yes we could use the lettering - any suggestions for convoys ships, troop transports and amphibious landing ships?

You differ between these three?

Amphibious transports could use "Amph". That would fit in the box, wouldn't it. Or maybe "LC" (Landing Craft) .

Convoys is trickier. There's a number of names for these. The ones you mentioned is sometimes refered to as "AK" (Cargo) and "AP" (Troop Transport) but this isn't very clear for the casual player (I had to look it up myself). Maybe something as simple as "Con" would do.

Do you really have to differ these two? The opponent shouldn't be aware of what is what. Yet, a simple solution could be "CC" for Cargo Convoy and "TC" for Troop Convoy.

Does "Amph" have a shorter range than normal Convoy?

AMPH doesn't really exist yet. For convoys you need to be able to tell your own troop transports from cargo shipments so we'll need to show them separately.

Ok. I realize that there's a bonus to know which vessel carries what. And the enemy can't see it before a sub or other naval unit is in contact anyway?

What do you mean by AMPH doesn't exist? Don't they have any special capabilities in the game? Or do you mean that the concept wasn't expressed that way during the war?

We don't have AMPH units in game yet.

So why did you write that in the first place then!?! :D

Never mind, we sorted the other things out. Good luck with the counters. Hope to see something of it soon.

I'm not sure what you mean - we need the art done at the same time as the other units so there is consitency in style and enough differentiation to tell them apart :)

Developer Question

Would you find it valuable for me to offer up some of the following information about neutral countries:

1) The size and extent of their armed forces
2) Likely diplomacy scripts for them

Or, have you already done this work and not looking for any feedback? I was thinking of devoting a post to country groups like - Low Countries, Scandinavia, Balkans, Spain/Portugal, Turkey, Middle East

Size and extent of forces would be most important and I would like some feedback on that. As for diplomacy, all countries (wheter at war or peace) are either

1) Pro Axis
2) Pro Allies
3) Neutral

so, those who are proaxis can only be DOW'ed by Allies and vice versa.
so, there really is not much to do with diplomacy.

Currently, we have in game the proaxis countries as

PROAXIS:
Germany
Italy
Finland
Hungary
Romania
Bulgaria
Switzerland

PROALLIES:
UK
France
USA
USSR
Persia
Iraq
Ireland

This means for instance that allies cannot dow Persia and Iraq to get a land link to egypt from USSR. Similarily, Axis cannot use Switzerland as way into France. Other countries are not that obvious though. Especially considering making Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Finland neutral so that Axis can DOW if they so decide.

So, this is ofcourse up to debate, so what so you player think about DOW restrictions?

How a country like Romania will enter the war for the Axis? Is it a scripted event or does the player will have to use diplomacy?

Nice pics by the way :)
