Cohesion test rules clarification

Okay, maybe I'm reading this wrong, but:

So this means that if you score more hits than your opponent, he takes a cohesion check, regardless of the amount of damage taken, right?
The picture below shows the enemy fragged pikeman being charged by my knights.
They've first been charged by my pikemen to the right of the knights, dropping them to fragmented, then I charged them with the knights, scoring 4 hits.....
And no cohesion check?!?
Not the first time I've seen this since switching on the detailed combat.
Am I unaware of a rule, or is this a bug?

You can only drop one level of cohesion per combat phase. So, you can drop one level in Impact and another during Melee.
I have also been seeing units test and fail when equal number of hits have resulted. In particular, elephants, which seemed odd each time it happened.

Okay......
So you can only fail once per phase (shooting, impact and melee).
Then why is there a rule stating that the unit keeps its die-roll for subsequent tests in that round?!?
Seems a little superfluous if the unit can only fail once anyway.

because you could have a unit that is engaged inmelee with say 3 other units, you esolve the ist and roll to pass the cohesion test , you keep that die roll for the other 2 melle reoslves as well
(note , you can drop more than on cohesion level if you "lose badly", howver that definition is an unknown factor)

ya..forgot about the nebulous 'lose badly'....and sometimes other modifiers will be involved in subsequent combats, so you might have ended with '7' the first combat, but some other mod takes you down to '6' in the next...

Okay, to recap (just to see if I've got this right)
A unit can drop cohesion three different times in a turn. Once each in shooting, impact and melee.
It is possible to lose more than one level in a test, if one loses 'badly'
A unit keeps the die-roll for every other test in each phase; meaning it can fail a test previously passed if the subsequent modifiers differ (more hits taken, flank attacks etc.)
That about the gist of it?

I think the test is rerun with any new modifiers but with the same die roll. But the second test isn't displayed in the details window since it doesn't include a new die roll. The summary display window shows more details of what is going on in the game but doesn't show everything. ANotehr thing it doesn't show is die rolls for anarchy tests.
So I think that the opposing BG did take the 2nd check but had rolled well enough the first time that it still passed. (Frustrating, I know

.)

Can't be, since it dropped to fragmented on the first charge, and hence must've failed the first test.
But if a unit can only fail one test per phase, that would explain it, since both attacks were impact.
Doesn't make it any less frustrating, but......
Doesn't matter since I lost the game in question anyway, it just piqued my curiousity.
