Leaders - What am I doing wrong?

This problem seems to be only with SOA.

Example: Building Medieval French (early) army.
Assign grade to CinC
Click on bodyguard
Only choice is Knights
Assign Knights

As soon as I click anywhere else, the Knights disappear from adjacent to the CinC.

Same problem with any other general I try to create. I cannot assign a bodyguard to any commander.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your help.

OK, I did some more testing. The issue seems to be with some of the armies in SOA. If you click on an army and the CinC is not already "populated" with a type of bodyguard (when there is a choice of more than one), you will not be able to assign a bodyguard. In other words, if a type of bodyguard is not assigned when you open the army, you won't be able to add one.

I have found problems so far with the following armies:
Medieval French (early)
Swiss (early)
Condotta - Papal States

The following armies (from my test) seem to work OK:
Later Scots Isles
Anglo Irish
Navarrese
Low Countries
Medieval Danish (early)

I just tried this with the lists you cited, seams to work fine......
Remeber not all units can be commanders, it varies by list as well
So for Early french only knights can be commanders, for example, Early Swiss only halbediers.

Thanks for checking from your end. It's not that I'm trying to assign an excluded bodyguard type. For example, for the early Medieval French, it's correctly gives me only the "Knight" option, but goes blank (removing "Knight" from the field) when I click anything else.

I'm pretty sure that when you first load a list, it populates the CinC bodyguard list with one of the applicable types. You can then use the "drop down" to change the type. In my case the field is blank, and I can't keep anything in there. (And therefore cannot use that army list.)

I'm pretty sure this is a glitch and not operator error. Thanks again.

Hmm, unless you have a corrupy file, you should be all set... There wont be a "drop down" w Early French since only one unit type can be a leader, knights, its already chosen for you when you open a new DAG list, you can of coure use the drop down for his level of command or to add additional commanders

If that doesnt work, maybe post a screenie?

OK. Have screen captures. How do I upload them here? Thanks for your help GrayMouser.

Ooh, I actually dont know how to post a screenie... There was a post about it... Play around with hit some more, again, it asound like you either have a bad install (but doesnt make sense would only affect the lists that only have one commander type) or maybe you are oever thinking what needs to be done... Also make sure you are up to date o the patches....

I'm pretty sure it's a glitch and not me. I'm up to date on the patches. I'll try to figure out how to post screen shots to the forum. Thanks again.

For example, Later Scots populates the Bodyguard field when you load the screen.

Image
Early Med French (I also found other army lists with the same problem) does not populate the Bodyguard field, even though there is only one choice.

Image
When you click on the drop down, you do get "Knights", but any other click clears the Bodyguard field completely. You cannot assign a Bodyguard.

Thats very odd. is this MAc version?
When I load Early French the knights are there in the commander in chief spot, I tried to "break it" but could not.....

Possibly some local data file is corrupt if nobody else can repeat this. Reinstalling might help. Try the 1.3.3 full patch and then you just need the 1.3.4 and 1.3.5 updates.

So I should uninstall the game? And then reinstall? Does this delete my saved armies? Thanks.

No it wont deleted your saved armies but you should probably delete the saved army that is causing issues if you havent already. That would be a good place to start before uninstalling.

You could try installing the patch over the top, if it allows you to rather than removing the current version to save time.

The patch got me back to 1.3.3 and the problem corrected itself. :D

However, once I upgraded to 1.3.5, the problem reappeared. :(

So...now what? Appears that there might be a glitch somewhere in 1.3.5 ??? Does that sound possible? Odd, since no one else seems to be having the problem.

Hey Iain, this appears to be a bug (either from 1.34 or 1.35)

I had no issues with 1.33 but just used the updater to get to 1.35 (skipped 1.34) and now i see what Sailingguy is reporting

The good news is it appears to be just a display bug (ie the text of what type of leader you have in the drop down doesnt display)
I was able to load up the early french list in a dag battle vs the ai so no problem (didnt test any other but appears to be only with lists that only have one type of leader available?)

Same problem here using Condotta - Florence army.

But as TGM says, it only appears to be a problem in the army list, since the unit actually appears correctly when playing DAG games.
Question now becomes of whether the army list count the points for the unit correctly.....
Going back to test that one.

EDIT: Yep, that works as intended. Bug appears to be cosmetic only.

Can't say whether it's a bug in the patches, since I never noticed this until after updating to 1.3.4

This is not a complete list, but...
I also had trouble with:
Swiss (early)
Condotta - Papal States

So far I have only seen the problem in Storm of Arrows, and not Rise of Rome or Immortal Fire.

I'd guess that's because none of the lists in RoR/IF has armies with only one type of unit available as generals.
Well, at least all the ones I've played around with have at least one Inf and one Cav choice.

So the problem appears to be having a drop-down menu without any choices to it.
If that sentence makes any sense.

I've reported this to HexWar. Thanks!
