I painted up a unit of firelocks, 4 bases of superior shot, as Prince Ruperts Firelocks. I got the uniform colour etc from the Osprey Elite Infantry of the ECW book.
So far I have not found any mention of them on any flag sites I have gone to so I was wondering if I should just stick an extra Prince Ruperts Regt of Foot flag on their ensign's pole?
Quite the bother that the Regt's listed in the book never seem to show up on any of the ECW flag sites so hard to figure out who should get what kind of flag.

Would Firelocks HAVE flags?

Certainly hope so I based an ensign with them and looks rather silly just holding a bare pole and all. Perhaps its time to just call it a fantasy unit and give them a flag?? I really dont want to try and get him off the base and have to do another fig just because

I think the whole flag question can raise debate, just look at some of the TMP topics! If you fancy a flag put one on, the designs were fairly basic, base it on the coat colour with a cross in the top left hand corner and away to go! When it comes down to it I suspect that the unit will not be used to instruct people in the uniforms and flags of the ECW?

Look at Madaxemans Battle Reports on this site, in the Swedish/German Catholic game there are obvious ECW units with ECW flags. It does not detract from a good looking game and gets the job done!

Now if it was a flag on an unpainted, unbased figure - outrage!!!!

It is based and painted, just have to do a mass flocking on the army. According to Osprey they were in red so that is how I painted them, so perhaps nice red flag... But I did want to use one of the extra Rupert flags from the Warlord sheet since I have them.
I doubt my army will be used as any kind of historical uniform or flag basis, it seems you can't go by uniform colour for the flags at all. Talbot's boys wore yellow but most sites show the flag as being white. I have seen other such cases where agreed on coat colour and flags don't work out. I have a black coat regt that I can't find any flag reference to so they are getting a black flag.
Now Richard Bagots reg't is more confusing, they are supposed to have had purple uniforms, so what flag should they have?? I don't think I have come across any purple flags in the ECW so far.... might just get a nice red one if all else fails.

And you could have purple unit too if you wanted, should I keep an eye out for your own purple flags??

I figured I'd go with the later NMA instead. I have 3 pike/shotte painted up in the red coats. Am going to wait at that point until I see the lists. If I go earlier, then I may do the purple ones.

If I go something on the Continent, I'd like to go darker/drab. Will see. Little time/energy now for painting.

Purple flag has been confirmed, thanks for that little tid bit of info. From what I had gathered quite a few years ago during my first foray into renaissance, the purple uniforms probably did not last past the first year and never made a second appearance. Its just such a unique colour I want to do them up. Looks like it will be time to find a nice flag on warflag and copy it and then add purple instead of whatever colour it is. That will add a nice touch to the table top

Some of the cavalry cornets and other flags of the ECW were very expressive and not 'standard' like the years to come. Meaning and expression was possible in flags of the time.

Prince Rupert’s Firelocks were a small guard unit, not a full regiment, so they likely didn’t carry their own colours — best option is to leave them without a flag or, if you prefer, use a spare Prince Rupert’s Regiment of Foot flag for visual consistency.

Great job on your Prince Rupert's Firelocks! Finding accurate ECW flags can be tricky. Sticking with a general Prince Rupert's Regiment of Foot flag is a reasonable solution if a specific ensign proves elusive. Have you considered checking for related regiments or similar uniform colors for flag inspiration?
