Resuming campaigns!

Hello,

When ever I load up the game it makes me redo the second tutorial, with the Hurricane, and will not let me access any other campaign until I have completed it.
I am then able to then pick up the campaign from where I last played

Other than that it plays well and I am in several multi-player games, however, when I quit and come back, low and behold I have to redo the tutorial.

yours,

What OS are you running under? This does seem to be a very infrequent bug to do with the system (somehow!) write-protecting the save files.

If you open the folder My Documents/My Games/BBCBA/SAVES, select all the files, right-click, and select properties, then uncheck the read-only tag then it might fix the problem. We are trying to work out what the common factor might be!

Well that's very odd. Is the game exiting normally, using the Quit button? Although even then it should be fine.

Try deleting all the files in the folder (unless you have savegames you need) and see whether that helps.

I've been doing some research, and there does seem to be some odd way that W7 can cause these folders to become readonly. I can't find any specific cause though, so we might have to try the various solutions which I have found on the MS support fourms etc. Can you try this first:

To take ownership of a folder

Right-click the folder that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.

Click the Security tab, click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.

Click Edit. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Click the name of the person you want to give ownership to.

If you want that person to be the owner of files and subfolders in this folder, select the Replace owner on subcontainers and objects check box.

Click OK.

Cheers

Have tried suggested changes and no good for me?
Sorry, still a good game though!

How did you install 7, was it an upgrade or a clean install? Just trying to work out the reasons behind it.

Did you install the game on a different use account than you are playing it on? Not that that should make any difference...

I'll try and find some other solutions, but everywhere I have found references to it the solutions seem to be quite random :(

It was a clean install of windows 7 and I have tried uninstalling and reloading BA - to no avail.

No, just the one account.

Thanks for all the help.

For some reason the files on your machine are not updating. It is prevent saving of any sort which is pretty much going to break everything.

Unless we can find out why it is preventing teh game saving there is unlikely to be much we can do. As far as we can see it must be related to some setting on your PC. Have you installed it to a different user account or with limited privaleges?

When you run the game, what version number do you see in the top left when the game first loads?

I see 1.3 with 1.3.9 in brackets below.

Yet another thing I noticed was that I have to double click on the BA icon twice. Looking in the process list in Task Manager, shows that the BA.exe 32is listed twice. The first click shows it at 50% CPU load and no game. Double click it a second time and the game plays but CPU is 0% activity.

I am using win7 64 ultimate.

thanks for help.

PS the help about clicking read-only box didn't work and once I left the folder and came back they were all ticked again.

That would certainly prevent it from updating correctly - if there are two copies of the EXE running. I have no idea why it might be doing this.

When you installed, did you install to the default folder?

It seems to be a general and random W7-64 issue. We've got reports in FoG about it too, but in that thread they mention it happens on other (non-Slitherine) games (but never the same games for different people). It seems to be related to drivers, but some people say video drivers, others say printer drivers!

I will investigate and see if I can't find a general solution to it.

Have you tried deleting the My Documents\My Games\BBCBA folder entirely? Then it will be rebuilt next time you run the game. You will lose any saves etc, but it might fix the issue.

I have another query. When you update a version, are you required to enter and admin password to allow the updater to operate?

Ha HA!

I updated every thing in sight and something worked because the problem is solved.

I am cured and am a contented little bunny.

One thing I did notice was that in the installation destination it did state Battlefield Academy twice, i.e. Battlefield Academy/Battlefield Academy, but now it just shows up once. I let the installation pick the location every time.

Thanks for all your help. :D :D

That is very odd. If you have any idea what fixed it we'd be happy to know. Maybe Microsoft just patched the issue in an update?

Ian,

If it helps any ... I have W7 and when I first installed BA, the default folder that W7 wanted to install it to was Progams(x86).
I've understood from other game forums that sometimes installing in the (x86) folder can cause problems, perhaps unrelated to gatowone's, but problems none-the-less.
I installed BA to my plain ole Programs folder ... no trouble's at all.
