1st Automated Beta Tournament!

Hi guys

we would like to announce the first test of the new automated tournament system.

We are limiting the initial tournament to 24 players. You will need to update to v1.3.4 to participate in the tournament. This tournament includes 4 historical battles that must be played from as paired games i.e. in each round you play the battle from both sides and get a total score based on the results of both games. The tournament system does not currently support DAG games but this will be coming in the future. This tournament requires you to have Field of Glory, Rise of Rome, Storm of Arrows & Immortal Fire as we want to test across all army packs. Future tournaments will often be focussed on specific periods.

The way it works is that each player has an amount of time. The time ticks down while it is your turn - wehther you are online or not. It is much like having a chess clock. The quicker you play your turns and pass them back to your opponent the more time you will have left. If you run out of time you lose. If the game does not complete, the player with the most time remaining wins.

When the tournament kicks off a draw will be done randomly & automatically. Games will be created for you and all you have to do is log in to multiplayer and play your turn. When games are completed results will get reported automatically and directly to the server. You will be able to monitor the results after each round. When a new round kicks off the draw will be drawn automatically again. When the tournament complets the player with the most points wins.

To sign up go to http://www.slitherine.com/tournaments

If all goes well we will be launching larger tournaments in the not too distant future. Imagine how cool it would be to have hundreds or thousands of players in a tournament :)

Would love to participate but the time limit can pose a problem. I see that I have 3 days to play a game.
Usually more than enough for me but sometimes my work will have me more or less abandon my comp for 2-3 days.
If that happens while playing a game it's no chance I can finish in time.
Thanks for working hard to make this an even better gaming experience!

PS-Maybe I should buy a laptop so I can sneak in a turn or two while at work 8)

The time to complete the game is 6 days. Thats 3 days play time each so should be plenty to complete a game with ~3 turns a day.

Times are custom per Tournament so we can have fast play and slow burn tournaments.

Early next week. Only changes are the additions of the tournament support.

Well, I thought all the bugs Keith announced as fixed would get into this 1.3.4, or at least that was what Keith was saying (fixed for 1.3.4).

So....We can't join until patched.....Which we can't do until next week?
Or am I being utterly dense here?

If one can get the patch through joining the tourney (which I assume is the case), will this affect the ongoing games I already have?

You can join now. You'll need the patch before you start playing next Friday.

In fact it does! I work in a hospital(sort of) mostly at nights. Very few patients. Only employee awake is me.
Sometimes it can be busy but most nights it's quiet and not much to do.
I've thought about it before but...well, I don't know, maybe it's to drive this obsession too far :?

What's the point of an obsession if you can't be obsessive about it? :D

I'm a little troubled by the timer running out bit. How does this handle people being in different time zones?
