You did not fully answer my previous question. Sometimes when I try to save a battle mid-stream the save screen (by pushing the esc button) does not show an active save name window with "new save" written in it and does not allow entry of new save game name. Other times it does. Do you know why or not? Thanks

Are you fully updated? There was a bug where the dialog didn't allow resaving if you loaded into a battle. But this is fixed in 1.3.7.
