.001 files

Following each update I have a new .001 file created. Is there anything I can do with these to roll-back/recreate previous versions? Or can I delete them?
You can delete them without harm - or save them to prevent reloading if you reinstall (although they'll be deleted by the uninstall, and they're not very large currently anyway!).
