Classical Greek Cavalry

Hi all,

I would need a clarification for a Classical Greek army, dating from before 450 (the armoured version):

The main contigent would be Spartan, which, based on the Main List, would have 1 BG of 4 Cavalry.

Can it have an allied contingent of Non-Thessalians with one more Cavalry BG?

According to the Allies List, the allied contingent can have such a BG. However: in the army notes, it is stated that "the troops in the [allied] contingent are deducted from the minima and maxima in the main list". That would mean that there cannot be two Cavalry BGs in the same army, correct?

Sounds like you can't get more cavalry. Not too surprising since Greeks don't seem to be well known for their cavalry. I guess the Thessalians don't like taking their horses out of their home turf. I would suppose you could make it a Thessalian army with more cav and bring the Spartans along as allies, but that might not be as much fun.

I don't have the lists in front of me, but I believe another cavalry BG isn't an option. However, you could have an Thessalian allied LH BG. Not sure if Spartans can be allies.
