After repeated defeats, is it necessary to start over?

I had built up an army without disbanding any units but I had not recruited any heavy cavalry or heavy infantry. In the battle 'Cisalpine Gaul' I was up against a tribal army that had experienced heavy units. Although my units were experienced, Level 12 for example, they were all light forces. They got repeatedly wiped out. So I disbanded most of them and recruited heavy forces. Of course these are all Level 1. They get wiped out as well.

My question is, should I start all over again and try to bring on some heavy units as the wars proceed. To the best of my recollectionm I never seemed to have enough money to buy heavier forces.

Or is there some sympathy algorith in the game that after many many defeats lets me proceed? :?

Nope, no sympathy :(

My guess is you should back up to a save about 6-8 battles ago, and go from there.

Cisalpine Gaul is a very tough scenario. You have to be tricky to win.

The enemy all start with the "Long Hold" order, and you can take advantage of that by "pulling" them one at a time, or a few at a time, using archers.

You can change the difficulty setting before each battle and there must an automatic save of one of your previous battle...

Did you select the easiest setting?

Cheers

There is no sympathy feature unfortunately. It's something we'vwe looked in to but have not found a good system for as yet. It sounds like you might be better off starting again and creating a more balanced force.
