Pretty sure it auto updates when you run the game launcher.

Correct - it will ask whether you want to update once the launcher has checked the update versions, then it should take just a few moments.

Okay thanks, the updater kicked in when I launched the game.
I like the new unlim zoom..:)
But I take it there's still no option to elevate our eyes up towards the horizon when we're close to ground level?

I've just updated my review here-

The problem is that there isn't anything to see - no skydome, missing undersides to assets, etc. It is possible to tweak the view params by altering some data in the MAPVIEW file, but with all the visual artifacts, it's not something that we could really support 'properly' in game.

What if there's an enemy Tiger tank just down the road but we can't see it because BA doesn't allow us to raise our eyes?
Virtually every other 3D wargame on the market allows us to raise our eyes.
If you can program it into BA go ahead and it'll double your sales, your call..;)

Why can't you just pan the map so that the tank is in view?

If you mean dragging the map (scrolling), that's not as realistic as simply raising your eyes to look down the road.
Perhaps I've explained it badly, so let me try to post a couple of screenshots from another typical game-
In the top picture, our eyes are looking downwards at a 45-degree angle towards the road, like in BA.
But in the second picture we can simply raise our eyes and see a beautiful sight, but BA doesn't allow us to do that.

Right, what I'm saying is just pan the camera toward the tanks to see them. It's not realistic, but this game isn't exactly a simulation (or intended to be from my understanding).

The thing is... either it is in your units range or it is not. Panning the camera will not help you anyway because if the unit is the fog of war you cant see it. I think the camera angle is fine.

Since you are looking down on the battlefield as if you are sitting on a helicopter/satellite/mount Olympus, I don't think the "lack of looking up" makes it any less realistic. This is a top down view camera, while other games choose for a more "FPS" style camera.

The game is perfectly playable without ever rotating or zooming. I'm not a big fan of games which focus on zooming and all sorts of fancy camera movements to get "spectacular" but totaly unplayable views.

I tend to agree. In this game in particular, I don't even like rotating the camera; I find I lose the 'lay of the land' in my head when I do. Very rarely do I rotate at all.

There are thousands of games players out there (including me) who are used to having a fully 360-degree viewing system, and we would never be able to get used to BA's restriction of not being able to raise our eyes towards the horizon.
So for that reason BA's sales figures will suffer badly.
If BA's programmers can fix it i'd strongly urge them to go ahead, they've got nothing to lose..:)

I can't believe you're still on about this. Being able to 'raise your eyes' wouldn't even benefit you in this game, it wouldn't affect your view distance in the FoW at all. I'm not really sure why this is such a gamebreaker for you.

POS has been around Combat Mission forums for a long time. His point is indeed important in a true 3D game where you have to read the terrain and LOS obstructions.

Not at all relevant in this game.

I would be nice to have the pendulum motion view of Matrix Operation Barbarossa in order to close view the units and objects for eye candy reasons, but not necessary to play the game.

Ah I see, so you're saying BA is not 'a true 3D game'.
If everybody's happy with it being less than a true 3D game, i'll leave you all to it and butt out..:)

It's not really a true 3d game though, it seems more of an isometric game to me, but then I just woke up and I'm not thinking straight right now.

No one's telling you to butt out, hell, I wish everyone enjoyed the game, all I'm saying is that what you're asking for doesn't really fit this particular game.
