Restricted Area

A discussion occured on another table at the club. I believe this has come up before.

You start in a restricted area and want to wheel to line up.

Side A said you can wheel as much as you want to up to parallel. IE if you start off 30 degrees from parallel can you wheel to say 10 degrees from parallel and halt assuming you have movement remainining.

Side B says the rules say if you move to become parallel you must move all the way you are capable of.

The language is something like "Wheel towards that enemy battle group until its front is parallel to the enemy front, or wheel as far as it can towards such a position"

Is there a question in there Dan or are you making an observation?

If your question is, "if you are pinned and you wheel towards the enemy, do you have to go as far as possible to get to parallel to the enemy or can you stop short even if you have movement remaining?"

We have played that if you are pinned and you wheel towards the enemy you must use all of your movement to come to parallel. You can only stop short if you don't have enough movement.

I've ruled as per Side B.

I agree with Nik

Parallel or as far towards parallel as possible. We will have none of those clever just not quite lined up wheels in FoG ;)

Right. There was a suggestion the rule was not followed as Side B or how everyone here said it was.

Just wanted to ahve the board's concurrence for the local debate.

Apparently "cause I said so" isn't always the clinching argument. :o

Dan, "isn't always" or "isn't ever"? Just wondering...

In this case it is an exclusive or just to confuse our Amercian cousins ;)

That said as the choice is to:
Wheel until parallel
Or
Wheel as far as possible to such a possition

I cannot see how anyone could consider that wheeling a bit and stopping when I feel like it complies with either option.

FWIW "ever" is inoperable as I was the umpire of the IWF in 2009. :D

The cheering from the english bleechers for accuracy was quite loud when I ruled against a rules author in favor or all people...Ruddock!

OMG, does that mean that Dave will now update his sig to note the TWO people on the planet who have ever written that Dave is correct. Briggs has never lived it down...

Yes, but Ruddock would then have to put up with the stories about him being beaten in the Dublin EuroCup by an Amerrican. And he can never live that down. In fact he quit DBM shortly thereafter.
