I bought FOG and SOA a couple of days ago and have been playing well against the PC. However I know things are a lot different when facing a human player and especially when one is a little green around the gills. Anyone willing to show me the ropes?

The ropes

Hi

I have quite a few games on the go and waiting for more challenges so I can not show you the ropes exactly but some advice instead.

1 Balanced armies at the beginning. Good solid centre of pike and armoured foot. Mounted command, 6 + LF and LH a MF command min of 6 MF for taking/fighting over difficult terrain.

2 Issue and accept challenges lots of players will help. Once you are facing somebody just close game for a while and have a look at his/her list. This will give you areasonable idea of what he may use.

3 Terrain is very very important. Being uphill, in a wood, on broken ground etc and being attacked will give you an advantage.

4 Deployment also very imprtant. I wouldn't spread yourself to thin. With march moves you will get there and use your LF/LH to pin opponent to enable you to march

5 All troops are important. You will lose 2 break points for a routing LF costing 4 pts as you would for an elephant costing 20pts.
6 Play against the computer Arausio, Medway are tough. Use the Romans

Hopefully this will help but you are right playing humans is a lot different.

Cheers

Eric
