I recently finished a "Winter Village" scenario were one of my Hellcats became a real super unit
It got three rounds of ammo and sniper skill and hunt move all the time, i.e. it could move as fast but in hunt mode
Perhaps the hunt perk goes together with sniper but I've had units gain sniper before but never noticed the hunt ability.
Needless to say I became very protective of this unit and in the end it was he who killed the Panther and thereby the Germans last hope

Yeah when they get Elite they are pretty deadly.

Are they weak against mortar because of the open top?

I've tried mortars on open tops many times with no luck. I'm not convinced the open top is currently modelled - they seem to have the same top armour as closed armour.

I have destroyed several M18's with mortar fire.

Good to know - I must try harder.

I haven't had any luck with Mortars against open top AFVs either - artillery, yes and often, but not mortars.

I did kill some recon vehicles using mortar in the North Africa campaign.

I just lost an Archer to mortar fire.

I think you are mistaken here. Hellcats don't get sniper skills. They get something like sustained accuracy IIRC.

They got that second reticle with better accuracy. It must be what you say. I guess only infantry can get sniper but I've never had a unit gain it so I just thought this was it for both infantry and tanks..
By the way, the hunt skill doesn't come with sustained accuracy so that's a separate perk.

Maybe he means, "elite shot!"

Ok, how about this:
"Elite shot" is what I called sniper and
"Sustained accuracy" is the hunt ability?
