A Winter Encounter version 1.05 RELEASED

CURRENT VERSION: v1.05

Here's my first scenario - A Winter Encounter. This is designed as a multiplayer map.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10165676/WINTER%20ENCOUNTER.zip

This scenario features the US versus the Germans. I'm still play testing the units I want featured, but the gist of the scenario is that the US is infantry and AT gun heavy, while the Germans are tank heavy with some elite infantry for support.

There are four victory points on the map, North Farm, South Farm, Cathedral, and Bridge. The Germans hold all but the South Farm at the start of the match. To win, one side must hold all four victory points.

I've played this map 20+ times against the AI and it's a lot of fun. It usually ends up with the US taking a very defensive stance since it has no real armor to counter the German offensive, and the Germans advancing carefully with their (one!) scout to reveal US AT Gun positions one at a time. The map allows for various approaches to the different points and also allows for tactical variations with the force selection at the beginning of the map.

TIPS:

US: Mobilize fast and get position and cover early. You have the Germans by surprise so use the initiative! Hole up and try to survive the onslaught then make a counter attack and grab their VPs!

Germans: Take it slow and steady, try to spot their AT guns before advancing, then strike fast and hard with your flamethrower and Volksgrenadiers. Remember, you can assault/shoot from the SDKFZ251/1 the same turn you deploy! Use lighter tanks to scout before committing with your heavy hitters!

Feel free to post feedback here and/or questions/comments!

I'm confused. Is this intended for single or multiplayer?

This is intended for multiplayer, but I have also made it a single player map to do some prelim testing on it.

Each side starts with fixed units, and is then given 300 points to spend on additional units to their liking.
Is that possible in multiplayer?

I don't know, I hope so! But it may be what's stopping my map from loading in Multiplayer now that you mention it. I'll have to try taking it out and see if it works.

8) Great map. What script did you use to put text on the map. i.e North farm, South farm, cathedral...etc

I put this in my text1 file:

IDS_LOC_SOUTH_FARM, "SOUTH FARM",
IDS_LOC_CATHEDRAL, "CATHEDRAL",
IDS_LOC_BRIDGE, "BRIDGE",
IDS_LOC_NORTH_FARM, "NORTH FARM",
IDS_LOC_SOUTH_FARM, "SOUTH FARM",
IDS_LOC_CATHEDRAL, "CATHEDRAL",
IDS_LOC_BRIDGE, "BRIDGE",
IDS_LOC_NORTH_FARM, "NORTH FARM",

And I put

ShowTextMarker(1, 40, 33, "IDS_LOC_SOUTH_FARM", 8, "FFFFFF", 1);
ShowTextMarker(2, 31, 37, "IDS_LOC_CATHEDRAL", 8, "FFFFFF", 1);
ShowTextMarker(3, 32, 25, "IDS_LOC_BRIDGE", 8, "FFFFFF", 1);
ShowTextMarker(4, 21, 38, "IDS_LOC_NORTH_FARM", 8, "FFFFFF", 1);

in my .BSF file.

I know that you are proud to show off your work but you shouldn't post shots of player's units and positions. Some people like to play blind, that is, not seeing the map and units before playing an opponent.

Nice map.

Some people also like to see what they're getting before they download and install so they know if it's even something they want to spend time on or not.

They don't have to look at the screens if they don't want to.

Nice job i hope you figure out how to make it work with multiplayer, then it will probably end up being the most popular map for the time being because there would be goals to capture.

Any idea what could be wrong with it based on what I have said?

I took out all the non-fixed units and it still won't start up in multiplayer (via hotseat). The map gets through the loading screen, but when the graphics actually appear, it's just a blank map and goes straight to 'objective failed' after about 3 seconds, there are no units or features on the map whatsoever.

Looks great - obviously a lot of thought and effort gone in to it - looking forward to playing it.

Can I grab the campaign from anywhere? I will take a look (probably tomorrow now though) and see what is happening.

Here you go. It's no doubt a problem with a script somewhere. I warn you, I'm a total scripting amateur, so it's probably a cut n paste mess! Thanks for offering to help!

If possible, can you zip up the whole campaign dir - so I can be sure it's not a file placement issue.

Forgive my ignorance, but I don't know how to do that. I'm sorry.

You should be able to just right click the campaign directory, then choose Send To... and then Compressed (zipped) Folder.

Ok, give this a try.

Note that this is my multiplayer my docs folder, and that there is another scenario saved in there that I'm working on called temp, just ignore that. Frozen Village is the one I'm having issues with.
