I very much enjoyed this one. Thanks for all the effort into posting it.
Those Swedes sound awfully tough.
The Horse+Commanded Shot sound interesting.

Thank you for giving us poor non-beta testers a chance to see what the game will be like. Those Spanish things look nasty, sound like your best to shoot the snoogies out of them and then kick what ever is left out of the way, hard to do at 16 bases though I would imagine.
Kind of makes me glad Blathergut did not choose to do Spanish again

The heavy artillery shoots at 36 inchs and deploys at 15mu so even just deploying at normal your in range stright away so no siting in corners, it is difficult to know what to do mind you. I find it a game that forces you to deploy as they would have and therefore there seems a certain feel to the game it just feels right.

Artillery sounds deadly. How have testers been countering it? Or have they?

Theres not really a counter I found this is just my impression place them last and either place them in the middle and bang away at the infantry, I managed to frag one of tims swedish Regiments before it got half way across the board(he did roll two death rolls of 1 both times and failed the test twice unlucky did'nt happen apart from a LF BG) They arn't that powerful but you can't just forget about them. The other as Richard did have Superior Pike with General and rear support and just run the guns down.

Looks really intresting the only thing that seems a little off to me, are the sizes of the units. For my taste they would look better double the size! Are those units the max size or can one have double the bases so 8-12 bases, and I am not talking about the tercio which I would also love to see twice as large?
Thanks for a great report it is always enjoyable reading your battle reports.

All depends on date of army.

Tim, really like the reports. Having played a number of games I feel that you have really captured the feel of a FoiGR game in operation and you explain the processes well. I could see some of my moves following the same sort of thinking that you had (but I generally do less well than you...). Looking forwards to the next 2 reports.

Well, courtesy of one of the local Beta guys, I had my first game last night.
I am being careful of what I say, but as someone who has never - EVER - played an ECW game with any ruleset before I greatly enjoyed the game. We each had about 750 points of EC. I was Royalist (based on the list published by RBS recently plus a couple of units) while my opponant was the dsatardly Parliamentarians. The game flowed well, with only teh occasional stop for a chat about differences from FOG:AM.
Musket Shooting is noticeably more effective, so there are more casualties, and I lost more units to autobreak than cohesion. Artillery is powerful, but not overwhelming and as other posters have intimated placing it last is a very useful tactic.
I lost quite handily in the end - 22-3 in comp scoring I believe - although at one point the attrition score was as close as 10-7 to my opponant.
My one major success was when Rupert and his armoured superior bodyguard rode down a disrupted pike and shot block - thanks to a lousy cohesion test. Discussing this afterwards, quite how I would have recovered this powerful unit to use again was open to some question, as Cavaliers would appear to be very reluctant to stop pursuing - Very authentic !!
