Hi There

Just wondering whats the best use for Cavalry.

From the research I have done with regard to Mansfelds use was a charge against enemy Cavalry after that it all seems a bit of a mystery.

If thats the case were does the Infantry come into it, are they left to plod forward and hope their Cavalry wins?

Dave, careful with your terminology. I expect you are talking about western C17th mounted which is Horse, Cavalry is something else.

I would say it depends on the army and the period you are referring to. If they had pistols the horse would ride up and let loose into the pike blocks face, which is where their escorting shot was to shoot back at the mounted. Of course in ancient TT battles you use your mounted to try and destroy of drive off the enemy mounted and then if you can move into your opponents rear and cause havoc with rear charges.
Not sure mounted troops roles are really a whole lot different as time goes on.

Assures Blathergut that since our armies are pretty much the same, your horse and mine should do equally well, or just as bad. I think we Royalists might get more over all though.
