Does any body have any good links to information on uniform colours and shield designs?
Also there are some lovely pictures on the Wargames Founry website but are these accurate?

Sadly (to me - these things are subjective) the cadmium yellow, barium red, fuschia, violet and cerulean blue circus palette in the Foundry catalog is consistent with many of the modern illustration sources.

They make my eyes hurt though, and if I ever paint them then I am their king. Ochres, rust, terra cotta, grey and cream for my lot,

In answer to your question, no, but as badly as I am usually beaten it is important that my armies leave good looking corpses.

At least for Immortals there is an excellent color reference as the Persians were quite fond of glazed bricks for decorating Persepolis. These are remarkably hardy and quite a few are in the permaneant collection at the Louvre (and I am sure elsewhere). The colors in the Osprey are IIRC a pretty good representation of the colors in the museum. They are depicted as suprisingly brightly colored - it is worth remembering the Persians were incredbly rich by contemporary standards.

The giant bulls heads that were at the top of the columns used to hold up the ceiling are very impressive as well.
