I decided to download IF to my laptop in case my desk top dies. I tried several times to do this, but the download kept crashing. I assume the problem is on DR's end. Finally, I got a note saying I had exceeded my six allowable attempts. What gies?

What I usually do if I want to install it on a second machine is just to copy what I downloaded from the first machine where I installed it. There is usually a copy of what you downloaded around unless you explicitly cleaned it up after installing. If you used Firefox to download it, i shuld be wherever Firefox downloads files to by default. This tends to be faster and more reliable than downloading it from DR again.

Correct - you can also backup the installer to a CD too.

I realise this, thanks. I have a finicky CD-R and was hoping to just do a download. Back to my question?

USB? ;)

Regarding DR, it seems they are having some issues for sure - other people are certainly having problems. I am certain Iain can reset your download counter once he gets in in the morning. Sorry for the inconvenience in the meantime though.

Cheers
