Balancing weapons

Gentlemen,
in my opinion impact troops are too effective compared to offensive spear and heavy weapon, a difference that is not represented by unit values.
Very often impact troops disorder heavy weapon and offensive spear, so they can´t take full advantage of their melee abilities.

I find it just the opposite! You hit...have no effect...then you are down in melee and doomed!!

That is the whole point of impact troops. And, as Blathergut says, they often fail to do so, especially if the enemy have rear support.

Gentlemen,
but heavy weapon and offensive spear equiped units deteriorate sooner.

Exactly, they are riddled with the impact weapons! (pila)
I find impact troops that are protected are at the mercy of how they do in impact, if they are disrupted they generally are doomed, even if superior....
Armoured impact are they way to go!

In the end its your luck that matters! I have seen unprotected mob distrupting and even routing heavy protected drilled troops!! I love playing this game and are hoping that they will implement new things to the game, so that a good tactic and good leadership pays off. Sometimes after about 3-4 turns and 2-3 bad dices you know that you have lost the game, your just sitting it out and hoping that in the next game you will be the lucky one.

Examples:
A. Superior Galatian HF: impact protected.
They have quite the initial hit, but if facing armoured spears inparticular, they are then faced with a ++/-- and are doomed. The spears simply have to maximize their cohesion modifiers to pass those initial tests (if they lose the combat).
B. Average/superior Roman HF: impact armoured.
Again, if facing armoured spears, they are still looking at +/- if the spears don't disrupt.
Versus protected spears is a much better situation.
But all in all, having played endless games with almost exclusively Roman HF or Galatian HF, they are far from super troops. A nice initial hit, but the thing about spears in both the PC and TT games is that, as long as they don't disrupt, they are consistently good.

Gentlemen.
Thanks for your comments. I´ll still rely on (armored) impact troops ( Roman / Slave) Infantry. So far my score is 19:10.
I´ll keep you informed about my impressions.
Thanks again, Klaus
