Minor non-flank impact

So we have a situation where a non legal flank charge is striking a flank.
T= Terrain. E = Enemy. A=Attacking non-legal flank charge.

T
EA
E

Rules are clear. Its as if it is an attack on the front. No problem.

In this particular case, "A" will after impact confrom to the front of E and be in the terrain.

The trivial question is when you read the rules, it is something like, "treated as a normal charge on the enemy front."

Does this mean during the impact phase "A" counts as being in Terrain? I think an umpire might rule it either way, but probably it is in terrain. Comments?

I don't think "treated as a normal charge on the enemy front" means bases that are not in terrain should be considered to be in terrain during the Impact Phase. I think the Impact combat should be fought as physically formed and the charger should not be counted as in terrain until moved into it during the Manuever Phase conform step.

I would agree with Terry, the bases are where they are. Indeed the situation could be reversed, they contact when some bases are in terrain and those bases count as [severely] disordered, then conform moving out of the terrain. Also, there may be situations where they cannot conform. Better to count them where they physically are rather than where they theoretically are.

I don't even think there is a "theoretically are" situation - only a where they actually are in the Impact phase. The treating as if on the front is all about avoiding cheesy charge angles (amongst other things) to disadvantage the enemy due to geometry of fixed bases.

Terry is quite correct IMO - which, of course, we agree on regardless of why we get there 8)

So play it where the bases physically are. Makes sense.
