It may have been believable if it wasn't for a Hotel bill in Manchester being £2,700. You could buy the street for that. Or at least get some inside toilets.

That postcode is for the Lowery Hotel in Salford. Very swanky, the best room is a mere £900 per night. which is obviously where you'd stay if you'd lost all your money or you expected someone else to pay.

Several members of my family got an almost identical e-mail last year purporting to be from our (real) cousin from New Zealand.

The sad thing is that the persistence of this scam for over a year suggests that it must have some success.

Though apparently they don't have phones in the rooms! :-)

Not as good as the ones that you get asking for help transferring money from 'my country' to 'your country', which identify 'my country' as the UK!

No Bill, he had many names after he missed that goal, but Sanath was not one of them....

Ya, have seen this before. The worst version gets your personal info (email addresses) of friends and then sends an email to all of those friends as if coming from you to send money somewhere because of some horrible event. You don't even know this is happening unless one of the friends thinks to call you and check.

I had heard it was actually posted by one of our old governors from Illinois
