CEaW: Mac version

Just a thread for those playing CEaW on the Mac. Freeverse has closed their forums, so Mac players have lost that community. One thing I'd like to see is the Grand Strategy mod for the Mac game. I know a beta once existed, but it has expired.

I've not heard anything about this so will check with Freeverse.
The forum looks to be up and running to me? What makes you think it is closed?

There is a notice at the top of the forums stating they are closing on July 5.

I've had this confirmed by Freeverse. I don't really understand why but this is sad news.
We're happy to run the Mac forums here. Feel free to let the Mac players know they have a home here!

Freeverse was purchased by Ngmoco. Ngmoco is an iPhone/iPad exclusive gaming company. I bet this has something to do with it, which mean we're unlikely to get any more Mac games from Freeverse. Doubly glad that you guys have decided to build a Mac version of Commander: The Great War.

I second the gladness. I think that even without the buyout, Freeverse was getting out of the desktop/laptop games market. While they did release some great games, I think they were too small to properly support those games (witness the year long period before fixing a major flaw in the Mac CEAW, not to mention not being able to keep it updated anywhere near the Windows version). Still, I do have to be grateful they even tried (and that the results of their attempt convinced "the powers that be" that directly producing a Mac "Great War" was worth their time.

I have convinced my buddy to buy CEaW, but he has a MAC and I have a PC. Will we be able to play each other by email?

Probably not. IIRC if you both have (vanilla) 1.06, it might be possible, but in any other situation the answer is no.

Not at the moment no.
