WRITE DOWN YOUR SERIAL NUMBER BEFORE INSTALLING!

I've just run into a problem installing Immortal Fire -

From Slitherine's email I followed the link and downloaded the installer (about 90 minutes) and ran it.

It asked me for the serial number, as I didn't have it written down I had to cancel the install to look it up back on Slithreine's email.

Now I've got the serial number but the installer has closed.

I went back to the e-mail and clicked the link again (cursing because I've probably got to wait another 90 minutes to download the bl**dy thing again). Nothing happened, re-clicked, nothing happened, re-clicked a couple of times, then finally got to a screen that said 'You've downloaded 7 times and you're only allowed 5')

I have now had to e-mail Digital River to tell them what has happened (awaiting reply)

It would be helpful to remind users before they proceed with the Install that they will need the serial number as part of the process as there is no going back when they are asked for it!

You should not have to download again, unless you chose to run the file rather than save to disk. I would never suggest you run any file from the Internet, always save to disk and then run once it is there. If you saved to disk you'll have teh file there - just look at the place you last downloaded a file to and it is probably there.

Note all installers require the serial number so you will always need them for every game.

If you have any problems with DR let us know the order number through info@slitherine.co.uk and we'll sort it out.

Thanks for your quick reply Ian,

I normally would chose 'save to disk' but I was doing it this morning without wearing my spectacles and just clicked the 'run' button as I could'nt focus on the other choices!

My fault of course. As you say it is advisable to retain the file to re-install for exactly these situations.

I'll see what DR suggest before I proceed with your alternative.

Thanks again ...

You should be able to just alt-tab to your email program from the installer and then just cut and paste the serial number.

If you just did a run, there should still be a copy of the file in the temp area that your browser uses. It should still be there unless you're run something to clean up internet temp files since then.

You might want to have a look into your temporary internet files, you might still find the installer in there.

Thanks Chris!!!

I tried Alt-tabbing but nothing happened (if I'd had another program running, it would have worked and I could have pasted it in, as you say)

Yes, I've browsed through my temp internet files and I've found the log file and that shows the download was deleted when I clicked the 'cancel' button, so it's a matter of re running the download (once I can convince DR that I've not used up my 5 allowed attempts of course!)

Have you had the last turn on our game yet, I've not checked!

Something else that probably would have worked at that point is a ctl-alt-del. That should bring up the dialog which gives you the option to bring up task manager and then you can switch to that.

Our game is done and I just posted the results in the LW resutls thread.

Hitting the Windows key will also give you access to the taskbar and the go to desktop option.

Cheers
