Basing Aztec Novices

Hi folks.

I am currently painting a 28mm Aztec army and I would appreciate some good advice on basing the figures.

I have a variety of novice troops armed with obsidian-studded clubs, spears and atl-atls. Do I mix them together on the same base, or are the spearmen, hand weapons, and atl-atl figures supposed to be on separate bases each themed to a single weapon type?

Regards,
Rossco.

The only real information we have is that there was a missile (atlatl) barrage from distance and then they charge for hand to hand combat. There is some evidence, a bit sketchy, that the spearmen would operate inbetween the guys with obsidian broadswords. Mix poses look best on the stands.

So when I based mine up I combined the atlatl guys with the less active combat poses and put spearmen in between the active swordsmen.

Thank you!

I'm using mostly Eureka Miniatures and they should fit four to a base if I echelon them. As these bases will be used in two ranks, I will try action poses for the front bases and more relaxed poses plus atl-atl figures for the second rank of bases.

Good plan Rossco. I did mine 3 to a base as the rules allow. That gave a feel of sufficiant flexibility that they could fight in rough ground.
