Extreme combat dice rolls and light troops

Hi there
Having only been playing FOG-PC for 4 weeks, I am hooked. Apart from 2 things really.
1 Extreme combat dice rolls - Yes there are examples where you will win. However I am reaching the point where I am not entirely sure what troop type can do well against others. The combat rolls are, yes, extreme. Lesser troop type in nearly all department blows away more powerful ones and regularly. Fighting fragmented troops who now do more damage than they did when they were steady. Superior lancers riding over pikemen, then get annhialated by them and thureophoroi. Fighting troops where you have an advantage superior armoured, average protecdted and hitting them in the flank and you inflict 1 casualty and receive 111. Hitting BGs in the flank does not seem to give any bonus. My elephants have bounced off everything, pikement the same. Hitting troops in the rear is generally devastating except when it comes to light horse. Yes sometimes they can inflict 3 figure casualties and unit becomes fragmented or routs. Other ocassions they inflict less casualties than they receive. It goes on and on.
2 Light troops. I used a Numidian army in practice vs the computer and it did very well but then again everybody should be able to beat the computer. So first game against a human. Well it goes to show that light troops are a bit of a liability. Why don't you just allow them to evade against all troops and if they wish to attack disordered, flanked, rear troops. Why can't light foot break off?
As a newcomer I would expect these areas to have already been raised. But sometimes people forget.
Cheers
Eric
