Field fortification, uphill and portable defences

Hello, I would like to understand this:
I see on rules charts that being uphill or defending a field fortification a + is gained to close combat. So for example if KN are charging in open against MF behind field fortification, they gain a + rather a ++? The same happening if uphill? Or maybe KN lose all advantage and they combat with -?
Portable defences work the same regarding against mounted but not foot?

I need to be cleared on my doubt about advantage for such a FF and PD.

Knights charging MF behind PD or FF would have no plusses. The MF would at least have a plus of defending FF. Any other plusses add to that (light spear, impact foot, spearmen).

Uphill does not negate any of the knights plusses unless it also has some terrain that makes it not open.

So only knights lose plusses, the rest dont? Cavalry and light horse keep their advantages of mounted/lancer/light spear?

Depends if the POA only counts in the open. Troops behind fortifications do not count as in the open, so POAs that only count in the open would not apply. So in your example, Kn charging MF behind fortifications would be a + to the MF (or ++ if the MF have light spear too).

Portable obstacle only affect mounted troops not foot troops. Foot troops defending a portable obstacle are not counted as being in open so any POA's that only count against targets in open don't get counted.
So knightly lance does not get + for charging foot or get the mounted charging Light or Medium foot POA's since the target is not in open terrain.

IF your charging uphill the target gets the +POA in both impact and melee. Just make sure you are definitely uphill when you are being charged since uphill can be a little hard to determine depending on how the terrain was made.

Only foot can get the +POA for being behind a field fortification
