AI Cheating?

This is something Stauffenberg has mentioned a few times and now I am convinced it is true. It seems that when you get close to winning, the AI starts to cheat and slant the odds way in its favor. Battles seems to go 5-1 or 10-1 against me turn after turn after turn. Overpowered Allied Corps get slaughtered by pathetic Italians and the Germans can run right over anything.
I know zilch about AI but what would explain this?

Why do you keep on playing the AI? There are many players around so you can certainly find some at your level.

I want to play a human eventually but I think I am nowhere near ready.

you will never be ready, its too different
I got slaughtered in my first two games against people, but it has to happen to learn the difference
now I am on my way to getting close to average!
I would be happy to play you and coach at the same time (with what little I know)
also, you want to be the allies at first as this is easier to learn (although the early years aren't much fun)

Yeah, I should do that. I don't mind losing but I hate getting slaughtered, which is why I hesitate.

This is really absurd. Air battles are totally one-sided. Lose five steps every time, inflict none, and 50% of the time have no impact on effectiveness either.
Can someone explain how the AI can be so strategically stupid and yet self-aware enough to blatantly cheat like this?

the odds are just a table based calculation which it caneasily load, thinking however is very difficult!
stop playing the AI, you will give yourself a heart attack!
