Yeah, a Chinese army has to be a sea of flags and yours definitely is!
What is the meaning of the letters/words?

Very very nice! Definitely one of the best first attempts I have ever seen. I would have no problem playing against this (and I hate playing most starters due to shoddy painting!). A friend of mine is painting up Han, mind if i FORCE him to have a look at yours?
Once again nicely done

Thanks very much for the comments, the symbols for the flags mean 'love' and 'peace'.. i went for a political and ironic subtext to the army.

... the individual 'squad leaders' (the swordsmen in the middle of the medium fooot), all have symbols painted on their shields meaning things like 'fire' 'air' 'water' 'fight' 'strength' 'earth' 'honor' and such...
Once again, thanks, and any constructive criticism is welcome.

A couple of these flags are upside down.
As are the patterns on these shields.
The army does look really nice though.

Yeah, i'll redo the shields thats terrible.. how did i not notice that :S.. as for the flags on the camp.. bugger.. don't know how i'll fix that... Will have to redo those flags.
Edit: You know what I did... I think I based the shield pattern off the camp flag pattern... haha

You could just say that some of your soldiers were so upset at your attempt to impose an ironic subtext on them that they upended the symbols as an ironic negation of your intent
