Flank or rear charge - wheel

In the rules it states that when a unit charges a BG to the flank or rear and it does a wheel and is more than 1 inch away it is not considered a flank or rear charge. i do nnot understand this, when a unit is totaly behind the flank and charges a flank for what reason is it not considered in the flank when it wheels even just a bit....

The rule is that it cannot count as a flank/rear charge if it makes a wheel
within 1 MU - not more than 1 MU.
This rule was put in, IIRC, to avoid cheesy manoeuvers.

Ahh ok thought so to because the "At least one MU" was not clear...

Just to clarify - the 'within 1 MU' only applies to flank charges - not rear charges. See the FAQ.

Indeed - always manage to forget that when explaining

The main situation that the rule was put in to fix was when there are two lines facing each other like this
and B breaks but 2 pursues short and you end up with something like this:
If the front corner of 2 has not passed the rear edge of A then a tiny wheel would result in a 'flank' charge which is a bit silly.

stop me if i am wrong, folowing your example2 has now 3 options: stay and fight A as overlap, turn 90 ° and fight A in melee, wheel a bit (with CMT restrictions if undrilled) don't fight and wait the 2nd turn to charge the flank. Thats it?

2 cannot turn 90 as A is in frontal contact. You can only turn 90 into an enemy BG if the enemy is not fighting. So it has 2 options.
