Mixed BG shooting after losing a front rank base

Last weekend a mixed BG of Byzantine cav, 1/2 lance/sword, 1/2 bow/sword, had the misfortune to charge a BG of my Thracian MF, OSp. He lost a stand of lancers and dropped to disrupted before breaking off. After breaking off one of the stands of bow was now in the front rank, while the other was still behind the surviving lancer. Does it still qualify as shooting in one rank, as there is only one shooter in each file, or is his second rank shooter now subject to the 1 per 2 bases requirement?

If the second rank shooter was behind the front rank bow it would be a second rank shooter, so yes. If behind the lance it is the first shooting rank, so no.

The bow bases in the front rank gets a die to shoot with. The bow base that is behind the lancer counts as if in the front rank for shhoting so also gets a die.

The words used in the rules are "first shooting rank"
As everything in FoG is done file by file then if one file has a single base with bow that is the first shooting rank in that file and the file with a laner than a bow has the bow as the first shooting rank

That's how we played it. Thanks.
