changing game characteristics (Spartan) on MAC

I'm enjoying Spartan (Mac Version) and noticed the game manual speaks of "modding". One problem I been encountering: there is not enough food. Realizing the official position that you "don't support modding", I was at least curious ---purely for theoretical reasons--how one might accomplish this. any ideas?--[/list]

Hi there
I have been playing Spartan for quite some time and I think most people with agree with me that there are sufficient food if you can manage your Farms well. First have you been upgrading your Farms?

I was only using the "food" grown on farms as an example (and you are correct in saying that is not a big issue--I should have used a different example) . I'm speaking of tweaking the game or adding maps or scenarios in SPARTAN, the same way as maps or mods are added in UT2004, or SimCity4. I recall the game Civ2 of a few years back had a very easy text edit doc you could change many parameters of the game. THATS what I was speaking about. If one can edit these items on SPARTAN running on a MAC OS 10.4, I'd like to know WHERE the docs are kept. I can't find a thing.
If anyone knows anything about 'modding' (see p76 of "Spartan User Manual") please post a reply.
Thanks.

Assuming the Mac uses the same files as the PC version, they will be in the data directory where the game was installed. A good source of info might be the old forum - which is still alive.

(scroll down past the big 'we're closed' image - it's all still there)
Bear in mind not to ask any questions over there, as we don't really monitor it any more

A large number of the game settings can be tweaked simply using the text files.
Hope that helps

You can get the mod kit from the Spartan and GoT forum. The modding is done using Excell and saved in the text files. The instructions are there also.
I find it easier to use than editing the text files directly.
I have some experience of modding Spartan so if u need some specific help just post yr question and i will try to help. There is also a map editor,it works,
I just use it to add new city limits of control and create smaller map areas from the Grand Campaign map.
