The rules say that a bow unit using stakes don't get any benefit against foot troops.

Then what is the use of those stakes : protect the unit against arrows ? against cavalry charge ?

Stakes act as fortifications against mounted troops charging the BG using the stakes if they are emplaced. This should only count against attacks through the front hex sides of the BG as far as I know.

Maybe not the right place for this post but speaking of planting stakes...I have been unbale to figure out how to do it. When I right click a longbow unit I just get the "change direction" indicator

when you buy them in the DAGmake sure you click on the stakes thing beside the troop name, think its a P for portable defences. Unless it shows a check mark you are not paying for them and your units wont have them. They cost 1 point more per I believe
