Hi
I looked at remake of agincourt from hoc-est-bellum pages and some ideas came up.
Why not make map and english position something like this...
http://www.heritage-history.com/maps/ga ... ard071.jpg
If the field is ~750 yard wide like wikipedia says, you could make that 10 hexes wide ploughed field with
occasional swamp because of rain. Unit size could be ~400 men for medium infantry and ~600 men for men at arms.
this would put english like
5 archers left on wooded slope, able to shoot overhead of center
7 archers and 3 men at arms in center
5 archers to the right on wooded slope, able to shoot overhead of center.
This would give english army size of ~6800 longbow and ~1800 men-at-arms.
French knight would advance on open, because attacking uphill in forest against archers is more futile than attacking
ploughed field. The englishmen could concentrate arrows from 17 units to the frontage of about 10 hexes. That would
make it a 'storm of arrows'.

The reason why I didn't choose that map is because it is simply incorrect with a totally incorrect (basically fictitious) battleplan for the English troops.

...and in the name of historical accuracy you did the Kobayashi Maru scenario...

I love Star Trek too! But I cannot see how you would consider this scenario unwinnable from either point of view (English or French) especially against the AI. If you play the English and the AI plays the French then you will win most all of the time unless you do something unbelievably wrong. I have played as teh English and as the French against teh AI (won every time) and against another player where I won as the English and lost and won as the French.

It's probably my fault but I played the scenario 10 times as English and my best mark was 29/33 to 16/14, any advice?

Ahhh, I see your problem now! You are indeed playing the Kobayashi Maru. The scenario you are playing is provided with the SOA pack, the scenario I designed is available from Hoc Est Bellum a thread for which is found in this forum. In that scenario there are 59 battlegroups of French and only 19 battlegroups of English, so it seems from the English perspective that you cannot win, until you play that is. As the AI is useless its virtually impossible to lose as the English against a human opponent its a good hard fight which can go either way.

...I'm glad others had troubles with Agincourt! I've only had Storm of Arrows for a few days and that was the first battle I fought. At my first crack I was got an absolute shellacking, and on the second go I was about to lose when I was saved by the bell. I'm gratified to know that I'm (possibly) not the most inept player ever and will now happily blame design faults in a scenario whenever I lose.
I'll have a go of the Hoc Est Bellum version, and risk permanently damaging my self-esteem if the Frenchies whip me in that one too...
