tedious unfortunate install

hello
just bought the game and dare say 2 add ons... on a (regrettable?) impulse. This is quite convoluted thing, unfriendly with numerous mods? strangely the downloaded/ paid thing was 1.01 and there has or not? several upgrades, big ones to load.
From my understanding 11.0 was necessary then could go on 1.25 or some?
btw not easy to see (no way actually?) what version is actually in the game?
the first update did go, second "said" could not find the game or is not upgraded enough or something alike. tedious and unnecessary complicated.
Unfriendly : asking for codes and not allowing the screen to shrink to copy it elsewhere...
This all thing feels so much as a thing done to make money, only, and with every trick available including many downloads of course showing adverts ; no doubts the compulsory filling of address and phone(?) will lead to selling files for further adverts... I fear.
Now I want this costly thing to work properly and with not too many troubles. The no e mail is a very unfriendly " I had your money now I don't care" "support" thing.

To check and see what version of the game you are running, start up the game. In the bottom left hand corner of the main menu there should be something that says 1.X.X -- with the X's being the game's current version. For the serial codes, you can alt+tab in order to go to the note pad where the your keys are located. There shouldn't be anything preventing you from doing that. You can also press the windows key and just bring it up from the task menu bar if you have it already opened. As for the issue with the number of patches needed to install - what version of Field of Glory is it currently saying you are running if you just install the core game from the download w/o any patches? I'm curious if they updated the core download file to include the patches and your problem may be that you are trying to apply a patch that is already present for your game?
Just some thoughts - I'm not a developer or mod, but just a few things that may help you out...

You'll note by the forum posts that we are incredibly responsive to issues that people have. Email isn't a viable support option because of spam filters, spam incoming, and other problems. I'm fairly sure that all you need to sign up is your email.
The install process coming from nothing is not as friendly as we would like, but it's been a learning process mainly brought on because we try and ensure that everyone can play everyone as much as possible.
I think that you need to grab 1.1.1 and 1.2.5 from the downloads page (link at the top of the forums) and install them in that order. You'll need to install 1.2.5 before you can install Storm of Arrows.
We appreciate it's not as simple as you (or we) would like. Going forward we're hoping to simplify the process, especially for new players.
Let us know if you still have problems and I'm certain we can get you sorted out.
Cheers
Pip

I can echo what Pip has said. The Slitherine, FoG, and Hexwar guys are incredibly responsive. Additionally, there are lots of keen amateurs that are more than willing to help if they know what the problem is.
I hope you bear with it for a little longer, it'll be worth it!

I've download and installed every FOG update from Slitherine. But I still can't install 1.25 or Storm of Arrows. Get the same missing update message other are getting. Don't know what to do.

Ok I got the right one 1.1.0; on the original "opening" no code of the kind could be seen, the screen space being strangely bigger than what was available.
Now I have it updated to 11.0 but...
1.25 does not want to update as the other customer said: "can't find version or game"...
this whole thing is tedious and all those registering, I fear records of all kinds made, I don't just don't like that. I also discovered I most likely won't be able to load that game (if it ever works!!!) on my laptop for travels!
My guess is that within 2 days I will get for a refund of that thing and kill it entirely in my computer, its spies and bugs altogether.
As of course I bought 3 add ons, 100 euros (!!!!) altogether. No doubt all could have been in the same one game; money making/ "innocents" trap.
See I am used to HPS games, nice easy, lightweight for the machine, friendly people. I just regret so much having embarked in this. There are no valid reasons for this to happen, to be so complicated.
I thing I'll keep it with miniatures and low tech dice. Well maybe not even as I am likely to play impetus...err

Hi JCp
sorry you are having problems.
You need to install FoG -> Rise of Rome -> v1.2.5 -> Storm of Arrows.
New users are now being sent 1.2.5 as a new purchase so it is only existing players who have this headache. It is a pain I know, but one of the reasons is this patch has been made more complex to allow future patches to be simpler.
This should all get much simpler for new users as yesterday we remastered the file delivered to v1.2.5 so there will no need to patch. If this does nto help please let us know and we'll get you up and running as soon as possible. I'm sure you'll enjoy it once you have it all installed!

Sorry for being a bit stiff and humm not so patient but I paid a lot for what I have so far (nothing?) and well it seems I am very unlucky in having bought this half a day too soon?
Tried "rise of Rome" but same answer as for 1.2.5.
Why don't you have me load the now rightly done version 1.25 all in one? Uninstall that crappy stuff. I hope your downloads a updates allow for several tries too.
And OK I withdraw what I angrily said about you being not helpful. At least!
But I'd still want that to work or get rid of it.

Hi JCP - we understand completely. I have added a new thread at the top of the forum to try and explain exactly what to do.
If this does not help then let me know what version number you are currently on and what you have installed.
I think you were unlucky and purchased just as we were updating the system. You should be able to login and download it again and this time get the full v1.2.5 and update your version of Rise of Rome if necessary.

Uninstalling will never be a problem so long as you keep the installer EXEs (and of course a record of your serial numbers), there are no limits on the number of times you can install or anything. So I would grab the new installer and give it a try.

As I said,( but being a F* foreigner well maybe) I went from the purchase email to the download part, nothing else looked like it except all the motions as if buying it again!!!

Even if you're not able to get the new version, you should still be fine if you uninstall everything, then install FoG -> Rise of Rome -> v1.2.5 -> Storm of Arrows. That should get you fully up to date with all the versions installed.
Cheers

If you purchased the game from Slitherine, don't get the files from the Matrix site - there are some small incompatibilities which are being removed, but let's not add yet more confusion!
Thanks
