Received email and downloaded the brand new release. On attempting to install it says
'The installer cannot install the upgrade patch because the program being upgraded may be missing or the upgrade path updates a different version of the program'
Initial Field of Glory was purchased from Matrix, Rome add on was from Slitherine....
Hmmm

You need 1.2.5 before downloading storm of arrows - that sounds like the problem.

I applied the patch BEFORE installing the expansion and it worked fine then. Strange that the patch isn't built into the expansion.

People won't all buy it on day one - but they need the patch to keep playing MP and get the new features. So it saves having to have 2 types of SoA - on with the patch and one without
Cheers

You need to apply the 1.2.5 patch and then install Storm of Arrows.
If you bought the original game from Matrix you may need the Matrix 1.2.5 patch which is available from their site.
Running now

Lots of messing about getting the right patches from the right places. All,sorted now, but it could be made a lot easier guys!

If it could we would - we are trying to resolve it for the future as the initial system we had could not cope with all the army packs as until we started to make them work we didn't realise all the compatibility issues that would crop up. With hind sight we could have made it simpler but we can only work with the installers that were originally released. and this is sadly the only way it could be done. You'll have to trust us. It was far from simple to do what we've done but going forwards it should be a lot easier for you guys!

I bought FoG from Matrix but RoR from Slither, and the Slither 1.25 patch worked fine for me.

The long story is you will be able to use the Slitherine patch if you used it to patch to 1.1.2. If you did not, then you ened the Matrix patch. The reason is that we added some info that is required in the 1.1.2 installer which Matrix have now added to their installers. In future it will not matter whose installer you use. It is very unusual to have two publishers patches cross comatible like this so it has been tricky to get it all working, especially with the complexity of the licensing of army packs & the main game and the rapid release of new patches.

Well it's very pleasing that you put the effort in. It makes me much more inclined to buy army packs as they come out whether I've an immediate interest in the armies therein or not. Someone remarked that with all the army packs FoG would be the most expensive PC game ever. Which may well be true. But the level and speed of support exceeds that of any other game I've encountered. It's quite refreshing.
