I need some figures for one BG of Daylami, for my Muslim army. What Essex figures would be appropriate ? AEA22 is the Daylami Spearmen, but they are not armoured, and I will be wanting to take them as armoured. Would AEA19 (Ghaznavid Heavy Infantry) be suitable ?

Some may (mr bowcase himself) say the tear drop was not as prevalent as the round shield, but you could cut them easily if one wanted to a roundish shape..

Many cataphracts probably also carried bows. Bow/sword armored horses archers often use lance or spear. I thought in FoG troops were judged by their style of fighting, not the exact weapons carried.

I think the Essex armored ghaznavid foot is a nice figure, very usable as a Daylami (bowcase or not). I just wish it had more that one pose.

I believe the shield is seperate, so could be replaced by a round shield if desired.

Tear drop would be more prevelant at the Mediterranean end of the area of Muslim armies, by the time you get to Daylam itself, and eastwards, you'd be looking at round shields only I think.

The point being that they didn't have bows (or at least any archers would be just archers, no double armed troops).

Bowcase or no bowcase, the Essex Ghaznavid infantry figure has been employed as the default "Dailami" infantry figure for 15mm Arab armies since the late 80's and would be recognised as "Dailami" by most experienced wargamers around the world.


If you want armoured Dailami, I can also suggest using unarmoured ones and saying loudly and clearly to your opponent "these are armoured - they wore chain mail underneath their robes"

One additional advantage of using the Essex figure is they make reasonable dismounted ghilman.

These are old and I have since got a few of the Legio Heroica to try and find a bit more variety. They are a bit bigger but I think they work together.

Are there any better pics of the Outpost Dailami figures? The Dailami figs pictured on their site have a pretty crappy paint job.
