Feature Request Open Ended DAG

It would be great if a new feature for DAG battles could be implemented, open ended challenges in the DAG
What this would be is a player would issue a challenge with x AP points ,he would be able to chose BG’s from any and all lists , no caps etc on any one unit… Once challenge accepted opponent could do the same.
I think on the technical side only a master list of all units in game would be needed, and likely many are duplicates anyways.
Why/how would this be used? Open the door to fantasy style combats(for those that like such things), allow certain battles, historical or not to be fought that cant be due to the restrictions in many lists, and would also be an aid for the growing # of campaign games going on.

I agree to the usefulness of such a proposal. Or just the option to remove limits from any army lists.

Totally disagree.
With FoG, I signed up for a PC version of the TT, a 'historical miniatures wargaming rules system', not a fantasy game.
IMHO there is more than enough fantasy in the DAG system as it is. I would like to see the developers fine tune and perfect what they have already got rather than spin off into even more non-historical directions.
Sorry to sound like a killjoy, I just think that FoG should stick to its TT roots, just use the power of the Pc to enhance that experience rather than change the whole nature of the game.

Well, it would be an option, you either use it or not, shouldnt interfere w anything else....as for the TT, there is nothing to stop tt players from piling on whatever miniatures armies outside of the lists in order to do a what if game... You likly dont have to worry, I seriously doubt it would be added....

Good for you, and that's exactly what you can continue to play. We're not exactly asking for orcs here, we're asking that the arbitrary restrictions placed by the devs can be turned off.
Arbitrary? I'm not sure what other word to use for it. Late Republicans at first could use all elite legions. Now they can use mostly elite legions, with the rest superior. Many nationalities have the same cap of certain units whether the game is 600 pts or 1000 pts. Need I go on? I'm not really faulting the devs, whatever they select someone will complain, but why not give the ability to untie our hands. This would be especially helpful in campaign games I would expect.

I understand your concern Jim but I think this is such a lovely system that it could be morphed into anything. If it was used for fantasy etc. I would really love it. First and foremost though I agree with you that the developers should remain attentive to the original system but down the track I don't imagine any real difficulties for them to expand beyond FOG TT concepts. If someone wants to play historically or fantastically then they would have the option without impacting anyone elses enjoyment. Also it opens up realms of new territory for campaigns etc.
Cheers,
Steve

I haven't looked into this at all yet, so I may be way off the mark, but isn't it already possible to mod the game to some degree? How much trouble would it be for the community to make these things happen? Do Slitherine have any objections? Could Slitherine help in some way?
I absolutely belive that games developers that don't allow modding are missing a trick. People still play, and buy, games that are 10 years old (or more) simply because of communities that build up because of user created content.

Oh, recreate the battle of Pelennor Fields
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_ ... nor_Fields
Most units directly translate to drilled or undrilled foot or cavalry, and there was very little which was totally fantasy - the little magic that was used could translate to very mobile armoured heavy artillery.
Or the battle of Helm's Deep, or....
Oh, the mind boggles!
