hi a bg of light horse is fighting cv to its front it is then charged in the rear it breaks that turn, does it rout to the side or is it just removed
we played it that they routed to the right, they did not outdistance the pursuing lh dropped below 50% and were removed at the end of the bound
do you count overlaps when you work out the total for mounted fighting foot for break off moves

I believe you should have picked them up as they did not have room to turn to the right or left. They needed 80mm to turn and only had 60mm. Others will most likely have the page number for you.

Chris is correct. Most units in front and rear will evaporate when broken.

1) You bisect the angles of units in contact. p 100 2nd bullet
2) 4th bullet p 100 use impact phase evade moves if obstruction.
3) Evade begins with turn p 66. Rigth column first bullet. You begin with a legal turn. (defined on p 44). Since two bases of LH are 30+30 deep the width after turn must be greater or equal to 60. ie 80 so you can't turn.
4) back to p 100 4th bullet, if unable to bypass destroyed at end of PHASE. Note phase is different than autobreak and removal at end of JAP.

You only count front rank bases fighting, not overlaps (P106).
