Kingdom of the Isles Campaign

High King Roderick is dead, struck down by a deadly disease in the prime of life. With no living heirs, the Kingdom of the Isles has been left leaderless while the eight great families of the kingdom vie for power and influence. A convocation of lords was called in the Royal stronghold of Isle to resolve the issue of the succession but dissolved into acrimony, as threats were issued and the clarion cries of impending war were heard.
All the lands of the Kingdom brace themselves for war as the eight great families intrigue and plot for the throne of the High King...
The Kingdom of the Isles will be an eight faction campaign using armies from Storm of Arrows when it is released. There is a hex-based map and rules for army creation, movement, taxation, manpower, supply, facilities (and their improvement), mercenaries, espionage, politics and conquest.
Initially, I am looking for eight players to control each of the Great Families of Isle. Each faction starts with five provinces and enough resources to get going. Depending on how things progress, each faction may be able to recruit further players.
Obviously Storm of Arrows is a little way away yet, but it would be cool to have all the rules, processes and players lined up and ready to go when it is released. Thanks to Paisley and petergarnett for the inspiration to get this off the ground.
Cheers,
Keyth

I would be interested if its not being too greedy being involved in 2 campaigns at once...
This sounds like maybe some inspiration from A Song of Fire and Ice?

I'm tentatively keen but I'd like a better idea of how much detail is involved so I can decide whether I have the time. Sorry to be a pest.
One thing that does worry me slightly is involvement in the league and more than one campaign is going to start seriously cutting in to the challenges that one can accept in any given 24 hours, which will possibly slow things down for all campaigns.

This one should be fairly relaxed in terms of pace - I'll get some details posted up over the weekend if I get the time. The bookkeeping required by the players is fairly minimal as I'll be managing the nuts and bolts behind the scenes. I envisage one season per real-time week or thereabouts to begin with, which should be plenty of time. There is a definite end-game (I am just trying to fine tune how it works

) and you do not need to 'conquer the world' to win.
For inspiration I have the boardgame 'Warrior Knights'... there is no direct rip-off from any books apart from the title

Warrior Knights was one of the most underrated games ever.
Count me in, if that's okay.
Oh... will we have choice of armies?

It certainly was
You will have free choice of SoA army list for your initial 'national' army, with the potential to hire mercenary armies if available, plus you may be awarded 'bonus' army lists to use.
And then there were three!

Please count me in if being in 2 campaigns at once is allowed.

Please add me as well if there's space, although it really feels like a Kingdom of the Isles should be based on Oath of Fealty and Wolves from the Sea armies

.

I'd love to participate but I'm being overtaxed with all the battles. What did the Pantherites do to create so much animosity

Anyway I'd like to offer my hat if you need someone to just control a neutral force or a roving band mercenary for hire. Good luck with the campaign.

That would be very cool - 'outside forces' may well appear from time to time, to strike icy fear into the hearts of the Islanders
Thus far:
petergarnett
Paisley
TheGrayMouser
iversonjm
Triarius
batesmotel
Plus support and drive-bys from pantherboy
Two player slots left. I have a bit of a busy weekend ahead, but will post maps and rules early next week. THESE ARE 100% UP FOR DISCUSSION! I think it will be a workable and fun system but I am certain that with other heads thinking we can tune them nicely. Thanks for the support!

I love the idea, but I can't cope with more challenges, especially as I have to return to work on Monday (I had a week off).
However, if you would like some help in playing the odd renegade state to fight the players then feel free to PM me.
Good luck and best wishes,
Morbio

The link will take you to the current uploaded version of the KoI background and rules. At present, it just has some blurb and the map. I will let you all know when there is an update to the document. Please could you let me know which faction, 1 to 8, you would like to play, plus a second choice.
One hex is a
shire, three shires make a
county and five counties are a
duchy. Each faction starts with a Duchy. Please let me know the name of your Duchy and your noble family (they don't have to be the same) and please keep it a bit 'mediaeval' for flavour. We will need county names in due course as well. Initial army lists can wait until you have had a chance to play with beta or wait for the release.
I'll be accepting various styles of Mediaeval noble ranks. The list thus far for game purposes:
Rank English French Welsh German Italian Spanish Slovak Norwegian
5 Duke Duc Dug Herzog Duca Duque Vojovda Hertug
4 Earl/Count Comte Iarll Graf Conte Comte Grof Jarl/Greve
3 Baron Baron Barwn Baron Barone Baron Baron Baron
2 Baronet Baronet Barwnig Edler Nobile Baronet Baronet Baronet
1 Knight Chevalier Marchog Ritter Cavaliere Caballero Rytier Ridder
More background and rules to follow shortly.
Cheers,
Keyth
