Delete Crazy Maps?

I just had an MP game with my Romans vs the Macedonians. Up popped a map with a large hill in the middle, with three concentric and irregular trenchlines around the hill. Maybe the map was created for some specific scenario, but for a phalanx vs legion set-piece battle, it is kind of unlikely that anyone (especially the Macedonians!) would have agreed to fight on this map. Is there a way we can delete certain maps (like this one) from the DAG map selection process?

BTW my opponent and I agreed to scrap the battle...

I confess I much prefer to fight on terrain dense battlefields, even with pikemen. I like the battlefield that your talking about as I've won twice against the Romans on it with my trusty Macedonians - though a recent opponent (again a Roman) resigned on the first turn. There's plenty of good ground for close foot and it's easy to protect your flanks thanks to the impassable terrain and the ditches. i love it.

The phalanx fought on unsuitable ground at Issus and the Granicus and Cynocephalae, to name but three.

Hats off to you for winning on that map with your phalanx, well done. As a Roman, I probably had an advantage over my opponent on this map, but personally I find such maps more frustrating than interesting.

And while the phalanx sometimes fought on unsuitable terrain, it often lost! In this instance I would have fought if my opponent wanted to, but since both of us decided we'd rather not, it was realistic enough just to scrap the battle. Moreover, it was the bizarre and highly artificial nature of this map (with the very extensive entrenchments, etc.) that made it such a strange battlefield to me. It felt like I was about to fight at Dien Bien Phu or something...

It is a bit odd - though I could see it in say Spain - a sort of old fortified hill. I've been beaten on that map too, I should say, but I find the more complex maps tend to suit me better. If potential opponents are allowed to exclude certain maps, rather than merely selecting their preferred style of map, I think that gives too much control to that player - suppose I play Parthians and disallow all maps save the most open? Someone once said the British army fought all of its battles on the side of a hill in the pouring rain where two maps join.

Or Dorset - have you ever been to Maiden Castle?

Bit barren looking for Dorset (I mean okay, the south of England is a wasteland and will soon be semi-arid too, but for BC times...). But yes, it is reminiscent. As I say, I love the maps with hills in the middle and losts of streams or gullies. There's a fantastic hilly one with two hideously meandering streams where I trounced the Romans too...

Definitely a hill fort. I have no problems with maps like this, with fog of war on they allow for plenty of surprises.

I hope in time that future releases will allow you to pick the "part of the world" you want to fight in (Northern Europe, Greece, Spain, Italy, Greece, Africa, Asia)...and then the vegetation type (Forests, Mountains, Plains, Desert)...and density (similar to the option you have now)...ideally, you would pick them progressively...but that might be a bit elaborate...
