I have the Spartan Graphsim disk and a computer over the minimum requirements. when I get the first little menu and I click play spartan I get a windows error (XP) report "Spartan has encountered a problem and has to shut down" yada, yada, yada.
I have tried reinstalling with and without the 1017 patch.
I have tried pressing escape after clicking play
I have tried deleting the movies
I have tried reinstalling my ATI graphics drivers (From several diferent sources)
No love
The Spartan demo works just fine, For what its worth I get the exact same problem with Rome Total War. But the computer plays all my other games just fine.
Ideas? Thoughts? Wild Guesses?
Thanks for your time!

If the demo works, then it's really strange.
Try switching to 2D mode, and try disabling the sound (add NOSOUND 1 to the user.txt file).
Hopefully that will help.
Cheers
Pip
Thanks

Thanks
Added NOSOUND 1 to user.txt still same problem. With the full version of the game I don't even get far enough to select 2d over 3d. I only get the initall choose between play and install menu if I load the CD and it autoruns. If the CD is already in the drive and I try a short cut or even clicking directly on the exe in the game folder I get no menu at all. FWIW the game runs fine on the computer I don't need it to run on, go figure.

Sorry you are having problems. There was a manufacturing problem for the Graphsim version with their copy protection. It means that sometimes valid disks failed to get recognised. The replication plant screwed up but by the time they found out about it, it was too late for Graphsim to do anything to stop it, so we had to try and fix it with a patch.
Check out

Let us know if this helps.

Hi Iain
The link you posted leads to another page with a link which ends in a 404 not found.
But I just realized that the info on that link says that the problem is with some cdroms. Are there specific cdrom drives that it is know to work or not work with? The only drive in the machine I am having problems with is a Dual Layer DVDwr/rw drive of unkown manufacture.

Great...Graphsim have pulled down the file to fix the problem in their own installer.
Can you try this one instead -
http://slitherine.com/spartan/SpartanGraphsim1017.exe
It may resolve the problem.
Sorry for any inconveneicne, this was all out of our control. We don't have any information on which CD's are effected.
If you still have problems mail me at
info@slitherine.co.uk and we'll see what we can do to get you up and running.

I'm having the same problem. Graphsim produced mine as well. Is there another way to access the file to make the game work?

I am having the same problem, but when I click on the link posted I get redirected to
http://slitherine.com/games/spartan, i also tried going directly to the downloads section and clicking on the graphsim link and it redirected me to the same place. If I contact graphsim will they send me a functioning cd? or is there a working like to this patch?

It looks like the old patch got list somehow. I have updated the links and hosted the file on our own system to hopefully avoid this in future.
You can download the patch from
