Mixed BG: swapping ranks?

Given that 2nd rank bow shoot with fewer dice than front rank, how long does it take to swap ranks?
Is this specified in the rules anywhere, or must one just use expansions and contractions to do it?
I presume that rank swapping would not be covered under reforming because this would allow swapping of ranks in every manoeuvre phase!

Welcome to the forum.
There is no need to do this as the rules talk about the first rank shooting - I do not have my book to hand and I cannot remember the precise wording. In any event, a mixed BG with a second rank of MF bow shoots one dice per base at effective range for example.

There is no manouver to swap ranks as such. If you really want to do it you have to expand (so that the second rank is now next to the front rank). Then contract so the ranks are swapped.
IIRC however, there's not point. If the front rank has no missiles the second rank count 1 die per base anyway.

Agreed, welcome to the forums.
The wording is "first shooting rank" so it is the first rank that is shooting that gets one dice per base.

Hi,
The rules for mixed battlegroups shooting are found on page 91 - "If the front rank of a battle group are not shooters , only the 2nd rank can shoot, but counts as the 1st rank in determining the number of dice"- and for impact /melee on pages 92,94 and 98. Once you get used to the way they function, mixed battle groups can be very effective.
