Hi, if you are going to play contempory opponents (Romans) then those 8's of warriors will be fragile. I play these guys quite a lot and you have to gte used to being whipping boys.

My recommednation is to boost the warrior BGs in size to either 10's (used to increase your 1 per 3) .. in a 4,4,2 (casualties!)formations - or (my favourite ATM) a couple in 12's (5,5,2) with a general(TC) in tow. Remember that if you want 4 generals then one has to be a Ally. Use him a a TC permanently attached to a 12. A couple of 12's with general supported by an 8 warrior gives you the best chance. Is not great , but combined with the Soldurii , gives a reasonable 'schwerpunkt' ...

Another tip is when taking an ally you can have a Javelinmen in 4's great for bumping the army size

I like having 2 allies with - each with 12 warriors, 4 javelinmen and a 4 prot cav/chariot (handy skirmishing)

get used to being chopped by superior legion! :)

thanks

Simon

Here is my list from Memory......

IC
2*TC
1*Ally TC

3*10 WArriors
1*8 Warriors
1*12 Gaesetai
1*6 Cav Armoured
1*4 Cav Protected
1*8 slingers
1*8 Javelinmen
1*8 MOB
9*TF

This relied on the 1) High Initiative, 2) Fortifications, 3) Gaesetai to get the set up I wanted, and then hopefully the medium foot would have a good spot to attack. Low in BGs, but they are hard to kill and the medium foot is fast. The Gaesetai went down early in deployment. Cav would either go for a flank if against weaker mounted, or more often be a reserve. My lack of success was more do to my terrible play, and in two games forgeting to put out the fortifications when I was supposed to.......

Also, my attitude is that either medium or heavy foot will get crushed by Romans or Pike in the open, so take the Gaesetai to hold up as many BGs as possible and the rest as medium foot to use terrain to your advantage. This army is ok against shooty cav.

I love punishment so I'm thinking about taking them to a tourney again......

Hi,

(first, please do excuse my poor english)

I play it like this :
4 TC
1 Cv (4) Arm Sup Undr LSp/Sw
3 Cv (4) Prot Sup Undr LSp/Sw
1 LCh (4) Sup Undr LSp
1 HF (6) Arm Sup Undr ImpF/Sw (Soldurii)
4 MF (10) Prot Ave Undr ImpF/Sw
1 LF ( 8 ) Unprot Ave Undr Bow
1 LF ( 8 ) Unprot Ave Undr Jav/LSp

Low initiative, but I don't bother, I want to move first... and run easily in the wilderness.
I think HF are not fast enough, it's difficult to make the decision with. They go too slow to "push" the ennemy back. More, in case of a battlefield with a lot of slowing terrain, it becomes very hard to maneuver with an army which naturally don't maneuver easily... MF are faster. But do pray for winning the impact phase....
