Just thought I'd show one example of making the FoG screen easier to view by adding some color to the game icons. Notice the red "R" and yellow "F" icons. Also I added a yellow border along the command pendants that makes them easier to see in the thick of battle. Word of caution: If you attempt this, be sure to save your original images some place safe.

THe banners look excellent with borders! I changed one to blue on paint as I am not keen on the green, but now you have done that I may just follow suit with borders, although I do think that I may have a go at a rectangular flag and a t-bar standard also.
