Aggression Levels

Greetings all,
I'm curious to learn how much other people alter the aggression levels for their units? I alter them *really* rarely. Basically the only time I do this is when I want an unit of archers to engage neighbouring enemy unit in melee.
Now if I could switch cavalry unit from the most agressive stance to normal or passive stance I'd do this much more often. The aggressive cavalry keeps bouncing around the battlefield haphazdly. If only I could have it wait for the enemy to move another tile to take advantage of situation it would be nice. Of course I could achieve the same by pausing and checking every second that the cav hasn't decided to attack the closing enemy yet, but is still waiting until the enemy reaches our infantry line and only then attacks the flank of the enemy at that time. But it seems the agressive stance is the only stance one can give to a cav unit.
I've only played against AI so maybe the agression level is mostly used by players playing H2H? To cut down the need for a pause to have an infantry to attack an enemy further than 1 tile away?
