I just read on some old new and learn about Castaway. Form the looks of it it looks like such a good game
I have long ago learn not to judge a game from its graphic and from experience I think this is one addictive game. So could you guys release it as just a playable demo???
I know that it was based on GW brand but I seriously don't think that will care. Could you just change some of the features so it does look too much like the Warhammer Universt so it will be OK to distrubite?

I think this is one of the very rare times that I have no idea what someone means. What do you mean?

Go to the News section and scroll down until you find the bit about Castaway, then click on the link.
Code: Select all
13th April 2005
We've added a bit of back history in the games section, showing what we did before Legion. This was a game called Castaway, a turn based strategy game, which was pitched to games workshop and set in their Warhammer 40k universe. There are a few screenshots of the game that are now around 5 years old. Check out Castaway for more information. Although Castaway never made it to market, much of the game mechanics we worked on made their way into Legion. Unfortunately the playable demo of Castaway is locked away, probably never to see the light of day again!

I knew it!!!!!! Slitherine can make a sci fi space based game easily! It looks like a combination of Emperor of the Fading Suns and Legion. I wonder if the space battles (if there were in Castaway) we also going to be fought with a similar battle system.
Come on Slitherine, make a 4X space game, you know you want it!
Oh, and I second any proposal to release at least the demo of Castaway.

Absolutely, I love strategy game that are sci-fi. Historicaly is good but lets face it, Sci-fi allows so much room for imagination. You have have something that is quite new and unique, not necessary a 4X game but something no one has done before.
Couldn't you release the game without any problem if you just change the graphic on Castaway so it does not resemble anything by the Games Workshop?

Isn't programmed code also copy-righted? At the same time, if they aren't making any money on it now it doesn't make an ounce of sense to not let Slitherine make money on it in exchange for royalties.

The right for people to protect their IP from "passing off" is substantial. We would never want to get into the situation where anyone thought we were infringing their IP.
Would we like to do a Sci-fi game? Let's say yes

Is there (allegedly) any demand? Well, you tell us....
Cheers

And I will be the first to buy it.
Plus, it would be good to have something in a different setting, you know, to have a break from the historical games

If it's good I'll buy a theoretical space game from you, but first I'll buy legion 2

I'm sure Slitherine could do a fine 4x space game, and I'm sure I'd be interested in buying it.
Important considerations: a large universe, customizable races, customizable starships, a huge tech tree, and good tactical combat. And full modability, of course.
Another consideration might be an interesting backstory, kind of like what was done in MOO 2, but better. I'd love some kind of "quest for the Ancients" story to be a part of the game.
Another possibility might be to include some tactical role-playing elements, possibly in conjunction with the backstory. But then we're probably talking two different games, which is not a bad idea, now that I think of it. How about combining a 4x space game with a TBT (Turn-based-Tactical) role-playing quest/trading system, akin to what was done in the Megatraveller series? Putting them both in the same imagined universe, but with the difference in scale, might be quite interesting and hasn't been attempted for a very long time.

It would take a pretty great and unique game to get me inerested in a sci-fi setting. There are plenty of historical settings that I would like to see Slitherine make games in and I hope Slitherine doesn't abandon historical settings in favor of sci-fi. If it were a really great game I would buy it, though.

bodidley I don't think any of us is in favour of Slitherine abandoning the historical setting, just that it would be nice for them to do a 4X sci fi, as a break if you wish.

Slitherine, you know how to "get back" at them, don't you? Just make another better 4x in space game, either original or in some other "universe" and let them see what they are missing.
