Dave Ruddock is a changed man

Taking a Heavy, no really heavy foot and really foot heavy, army to a shooty cavalry competition.
And looking at the results the HF based armies did well. 3th, 4th and 5th places. Ours only had 12 BG @900pts, as did one of the armies we faced. So all the doom mongers must be wrong.

Nice one! I do love to see people daring to challenge the "rules" of the metagame

Dave made me do it. I normally stick with the status quo.

Of course armoured superior spearmen are not really in much danger from shooty cavalry. (Nor indeed from anything else).

But they, allegedly, either lose or just have very boring games.
We had if IIRC: a 15-5 (2ap from a break); a 24-1; a 9-16 (our opponent was 1 ap from break also); and a 14-6.
There were some highlights in the last game where a BG of 5 LF (1 had been killed) routed a BG of Superior shooty cav; and a BG of 4 HF caught 2 BG of Super Shooty cav killed a genral, routed one and fragged the other.
They could have been low points from someone else's point of view I suppose.

You missed the other highlight where a BG of three Spearmen in a single rank was charged by a BG of four Superior Cavalry with a general in tow. The Cavalry had an overlap from another BG of Light Foot, so the spearmen were in effect double overlapped.
Net result - Cavalry lost a base, another general died and the supporting LF disrupted as a result. The subsequent charge resulted in the spearmen catching and destroying the LF in the next bound

The highlight of our weekend was having a BG of ghilman routed entirely by shooting from rear (2nd) rank psiloi.

This is why doubles is so good. There is always someone you can tell this sort of stuff to who a/ understands and b/ actually gives a monkeys t-ss.
