Member Lookup

Occasionally I want to PM a member (usually about a league game) and if they haven't made a post (that I can find) then I have to use the memberlist.

Is it just me or is the memberlist REALLY awkward to use?

I sort alphabetically and then page through, usually starting at page 3 and then 1 page at a time to get to the name. when I did this for Kilroy and someone else mid-alphabet I found myself paging through about 200 pages!

Surely there can be a filter? I'm sure in other forums you could enter the start of a username with a wildcard, e.g. Morb* and it would return all matching entries.

Or alternatively, have a Goto Page option, so you could jump close to where you think the name might be!

Any help here would really be appreciated!

If you want to PM someone just click the PM button next to their name in the forum where they have posted.

You're answering the wrong question. He wants to PM someone who hasn't posted (or doesn't have one he has found).

If you dont know their name and are not replying to a post why would you want to? We can spend time coding more features but struggling to see the use of it?

Why would I want to?

Example: Pantherboy has posted the initial league groups, in my group there are 7 other people. I could assume that Pantherboy has written the names correctly and just copy those, but what if he's mispelt the name? Or has used the wrong case for the initial letter of a name?, e.g. morbio or Morbio (I'm assuming the names are case sensitive).

Example 2: I often rush my typing and mispell words, what if I want to avoid mistyping a name by using a lookup instead? This is particularly troublesome when you mistype a name but enter the valid name of someone else. In this situation you may send a message to the wrong person, which may be harmless, or may be very embarrassing!

I do understand that I can just guess the name, but when messaging people I prefer not to. I didn't think this sort of lookup had to be coded, I thought it standard functionality of php forums.

For now the easiest thing might be to get shortcuts to all users profiles in the league added to the laeague page? We have too many other thigns to look at right now to do this so it wont happen for some time at our end.

No problem, I understand 8) .

Pantherboy, or maybe papajack, asked people to do this, but not everyone did :( It was when trying to PM those that didn't do this that this inefficiency came to my attention.
