Are there are any FoG players out there who are also members of SoA?

If so would you like to play a matched pair of games against me that we can enter into the Society championship too!

Cheers

Hi,

I've just joined the SoA so I would be happy to provide you with opposition. PM me if you want, your choice of game.

Here's the URL for the SoA. I've meant to join for years, but only did so last month following my addiction to FoG

I was a member from about 1972 to 1982 - your post and this game has prompted me to rejoin.
Unfortumately url seems broken today - can only find a (very interesting) blog through google as well.
Is this just temporary?

I'm sure it is temporary - there are lots of members of the SOA over in the main tabletop forum so feel free to ask questions there.

Or contact me as I'm also the membership secretary for SoA. I've reported the site being down.

I didn't mean to promote the society within this forum but in brief we are a friendly group of people from around the world who share an interest in ancient and medieval military history and many members are also TT wargamers, or use map & counters or the PC (many are like me & use all 3). Society was formed in 1965 & we produce 6 magazines a year for members called Slingshot & it's full of military topics of the appropriate period & gaming talk. We also attend wargame shows & have an annual games day we we fight the same battle in as many formats as possible (I think it's Zama this year).

The reason for the post was that we have a league table of games members play against each other - but I don't get out much for FtF gaming & so wanted opponents using this excellant PC system we are all enjoying.

Don't Worry

Don't worry - I am sure Slitherine would love to have their game associated with SoA - it would probably boost sales.

Peter

No need to worry about promoting SOA, both Iain and I have supported SOA for many years and in fact I am still a member

So far we have 4 or 5 players looking to play & post results in the Society Championship.

Society rules are no more than 2 games against the same opponent.

There must be a few more members out there - so fight the shyness & then our armies!

And if you're not a member of SoA visit www.soa.org.uk & see what you are missing.

Cheers

Hi - given the website has been down (and is now back up), it might be worth pointing out that you can post championship results here:

http://www.soa.org.uk/about_the_society ... ubmission/

... and the current standings for 2010 are available here (the results are manually validated so won't appear immediately). They're also sent out with Slingshot:

http://www.soa.org.uk/about_the_society ... ndings.php

We do track the systems used. For 2009 tabletop FoG was the most popular system (the championship only relaunched in the latter part of 2009, hence the low number of games)

Best wishes

I'm an SOA member, and I'm already playing against Peter. If anyone else is interested in a game then let me know.

I'm also happy to organise a little SOA tournament if you're interested.

I am also a SOA member (or I will be when I remember to pay my 2010 subscription) and have been since 1971.

I would be interested in paired 400 point games.

How do you want to do paired 400 point DAG games? Two games with the same armies, two games with different armies, two games with each player generating a list for a nationality, e.g. my Bosporan list versus your Parthian list and then your Bosporan list versus my Parthian one?

While I sent a comment on the web site, I figured I would also mention to you that it would be nice if there was an obvious link to join on the home page. I eventually found it under Store but it wasn't the obvious place to me to look for it.
